Cortana Search not indexing apps after Windows 10 Creators Update

The search function worked fine since I applied Windows 10 Creators Update on my Surface Pro 4 tablet. Now I install a new software and its shortcut lists in the “new apps” part of the Start menu. However, when I type its name in Cortana search bar or in the Start menu, nothing is found and it seems to be not refreshing in the index database.

If Cortana can not find Desktop apps or the latest programs when your are searching for them in Windows 10, you might have something wrong with Settings or the Search index has been borken. A few user have face the same problem after Creators Update. You could try any of the tips to resolve it.

A solution by making changes with Privacy settings
* From your desktop, tap or click on the Start button, and open the Settings app.
* Click on the Privacy category, and click on Background apps on the left side,
* Go to the right side pane, change the “Let apps run in the background” option from Off to On. Then you can set to Off all the apps listed from there.

Another method
* First disable Cortana.
Type powershell in Start menu, right click on powershell icon, and select “Run as administrator” option.
Within the elevated Command Prompt window, type the command below and press enter:

Get-AppxPackage | Select Name, PackageFullName
Remove-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_1.4.8.176_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy

* Log-in as another user or create a new account to login, and navigate to the address in File Explorer:

By default it is C:\windows\SystemApps\
* Use Takeown to gain ownership of the folder named Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy, and delete it.
* Log back in as your normal user, open the elevated Command Prompt window again, and type another command:

Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

and press Enter to execute it. Wait for about 30 seconds to reinstall Cortana. Finally restart your tablet ort computer to take effect.

Now you are able to search for all of your installed programs and apps in Windows 10.
