I uesd Windows 10 Pro on my Surface Pro 4 and everything worked fine. However, After I download and install the Creators Update throught update assistant, I notice that the recycle bin has some items in it so I want to remove them. I try to delete those files and nothing happens. Then I hold and press the icon to get the menu and the Empty Recycle Bin option is grayed out. How can I resolve the problem on my tablet?
How to fix can’t empty recycle bin problem after Windows 10 Creators Update
Third-part software might cause the built-in recycle bin function not working correctly.
* The MacType software can make Windows 10 Fonts Look Like Mac OS, and also fix Blurry font in system and get smoother font. If you have already installed the MacType utility before Creators Update, you have to un-install it completely in Setting app. Then you are able to empty all files and foders from there.
* The free version of CCleaner also can do a recycle bin clean/empty from there, or you also use the disk cleanup to get rid of the unwant system files. But when I ran CCleaner to clear the bin, the software seemed to hang and the process stop working well.
If the above methods don’t take any effect, the Recycle Bin is corrupted or an Access Denied error. In such a situation, you need to reset the Recycle Bin in Windows 10.
* From your desktop, type CMD in Cortana searching box or Start menu, right click on Command Prompt from results, and select “Run as administrator”.
* Within an elevated Command Prompt window, type the command below carefully:
rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin
and hit ENTER to reset the $Recycle.bin folder present on the C drive. For another partition on your hard disk, use the command by replacing C with your drive letter.
rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin
rd /s /q E:\$Recycle.bin
Once it is finished, all the files and folders in the Recycle Bin have been deleted completely, and new Recycle Bin will be recreated after you restart your tablet or computer.
