If explorer.exe crashes or registry changes in Windows, generally restarting the computer or tablet will restore explorer. You can also use other trick like previous Windows XP and 7. First kill the Explorer.exe process in task Manager and restart it again from Run Command. When the same issues happen on Surface Pro Windows 8, you can try the following simple tips to restart Explorer using Task Manager’s built-in option.
* Press “Ctrl + Shift + Esc” keys from your keyboard to open the Task Manager. Or right-click on Taskbar and choose “Start Task Manager” from the list.
* Click on “More Details” button and go to “Processes” tab.
* You will see “Windows Explorer” under Apps process. Right-click on it and select “Restart” option. You can also click on the process, and then “Restart” button which is at the bottom-right corner of the window.
Note: The restart feature only appears for explorer.exe and it saves a lot of time by this way.
